Director of the Department of Urban Planning and Management
Professor Ye Yumin was born in 1962. She received a doctorate degree in economics from Renmin University where she is now the dean of the Department of Urban Planning and Management in the School of Public Affairs. She is also the director of the center of China’s Urban and Rural Development and Planning.
Professor Ye Yumin has been for long researching on China’s urbanization and urban development issues, trying to frame and optimize a comprehensive urbanization supporting system which not only follows the general principle of world development but also applies to China’s specific situation with systematic methods.
In 2001, professor Ye set up China’s first urban economics major in Renmin University. In 2006, she started China’s first department of urban planning and management in the school of public affairs. (Traditional China’s urban planning departments are either set in the school of architecture or the school of geography.) In 2011, she and her faculty team, who are dedicated to public policies research of China’s coordinated urban and rural development and planning, officially established the major of urban and rural development and planning as a subfield of academic concentration.
Professor Ye’s major works include The Path of Urbanization in China: Economic Support and Institutional Innovation, China’s Urbanization and Sustainable Development, A guide to Digital Urban Management with Citi-PODAS, Coordinating Urban and Rural Development in China: Learning from Chengdu. Meanwhile, she serves as an expert in the National Guiding Committee for Urban and Rural Planning Major in Higher Educational Institutions and the State Development Bank. She has been appointed the chief expert in Jiangsu Province Coordinated Urban and Rural Development Research Center and the deputy director of China Society of Urban Economy. Professor Ye has received many honors, such as the 21st Century Talent by the Ministry of Education, Top Ten Model Teachers of Renmin University, and Excellent Teacher of Beijing in 2009.
